October Student of the Month

Congratulations to Marie De Haan, Linfield’s October Student of the Month! In her six years at Linfield, Marie has distinguished herself as an extraordinary student and a remarkable leader on our campus. She is diligent, purposeful, and insightful, and she has maintained an excellent academic record in the midst of a challenging schedule of courses. Innately curious and hard-working, Marie is a life-long learner who pays attention to detail and who goes above and beyond in her quest to truly know and understand. In fact, she even recently contributed to a research project (published in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine) that was focused on developing a plan of action for resilience in resident well-being programs.

Marie is a Linfield Student Ambassador and has served on ASB for the past three years (currently as Senior VP); this year she has also helped to develop and lead our student section at football games! She served with Sports Med for two years, and she is a three year Varsity Track athlete and a current member of the Varsity Flag Football team. But perhaps her most significant contributions on our campus have come through the way in which she intentionally loves and serves others. For example, in her freshman/sophomore years, she started and led a weekly girls’ Bible study, and last spring, she traveled with Linfield on a mission trip to Costa Rica to minister to the people she encountered there. She also faithfully serves in kids’ ministry and disciples middle school girls at her church, and over the past three years, she has completed more than 600 hours of community service! 

 

Her teachers and peers note that Marie is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. She is a humble student leader who genuinely cares for people and who is always willing to lend a helping hand. She is also unfailingly positive in every situation; she is sincere, and she walks in strength and integrity as she shines the light and love of Jesus to everyone she meets. Marie says, “What I love most about Linfield is that they point us to Jesus and a relationship with Him, which impacts how we interact with each other. Everyone knows each other's names, and you can just be walking through the hallway, and someone will greet you by name or compliment you.” Although she may not recognize it, Marie has undoubtedly helped to create precisely this kind of community through her steady, joyous presence and encouraging spirit. She truly has made Linfield a better place, and she is such a blessing to our campus. We are so excited to celebrate her this month! Marie will also be honored by the Temecula Chamber of Commerce, city officials, and local sponsors at a special breakfast.
